An unofficial investigation of the Tupolev 154M crash in Smolensk on April 10, 2010, described by a Russian journalist from Smolensk.

Siergiej Amielin: The Final Flight. The Russian Outlook

Siergiej Amielin's book is a record of the findings uncovered by an international group of enthusiasts during an unofficial investigation of the Tu-154M air crash in Smolensk on April 10, 2010 that killed Polish president and 95 members of his delegation.

The dimensions of the tragedy on April 10, 2010, in which Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed, the initial news chaos, questions about the causes and circumstances surrounding the accident – caused not only local internet forums to buzz within a few hours after that catastrophe, but also specialized aviation news services across the world. An international community of internet users formed over the next few days and started to inquire as to what happened and why. Attempts were made to reconstruct the course of the catastrophe and find its causes. In addition to amateurs, Russian (and not only) specialists joined in the discussions, among them also former and current pilots, who flew on Tupolevs and knew the Smolensk military airport.

The unofficial investigation by Internet users became a spontaneous campaign that was not controlled by any predefined principles, other than the attempt to verify all possible hypotheses. Although with no access to government secret documents, the amateur investigators were able apply their collective and diverse knowledge to interpret eyewitness reports and shed more light on the circumstances of the catastrophe. A public investigation of air crash on such a wide scale is unprecedented.
